Local Publishing Co has announced it is launching a new publication — Local North, the lifestyle magazine for Sydney’s North.

Local North will be a sister publication for Local East, which successfully launched in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in August 2018. The two titles cover a range of lifestyle topics including food, restaurants, travel, homes, interiors and design.

The combined print run for the two publications will be 100,000 copies per month, with each edition printing 50,000 copies.

Local Publishing Co publisher Elizabeth Meryment said the launch of a second Local title was testament to the strength of the Local brand, and the willingness of advertisers to back independent media titles with a targeted reach and focus.

The first edition of Local North is supported by significant advertisers including American Express, King Living, the Rockpool Group, Merivale, Flannery’s and the SCG Trust as well as a range of small, independent businesses across retail and hospitality.

“From the moment we launched Local East last year, we have had advertisers tapping on our door encouraging us to look at the North Shore and Northern Beaches market,” Meryment said.
“We wanted to test the market in the East first and as each month passed, the interest from high-quality advertisers grew. So we felt the time was right to move North.”

The magazine will be home delivered in key high-income areas including Mosman, and dropped into cafes, places of interest, libraries, supermarkets and high streets from Millions Point to Avalon.
“We want Local North to have high visibility in the increasingly vibrant centres all over the North, from the big bustling suburbs like Mosman, to the cool, beach-vibe places like Avalon,” said Meryment, who grew up on the Northern Beaches.

Meryment said she had been thrilled to the response to Local East from readers and the media and marketing industry, who had gotten behind the publication.
In 2019, Local East’s advertisers have included Westfield in partnership with its luxury retailers Max Mara, Tory Burch, Christian Louboutin and Omega, Qantas Loyalty, Audi Centre

Sydney, the Solotel Group of restaurants including Chiswick and Aria, the Icebergs Group, Raine & Horne Double Bay, the Sydney Festival, Woollahra and Waverley Councils and Racing NSW.
American Express has chosen Local Publishing Co as its print partner for its highly visible Shop Small campaign, which launches in both Local East and Local North in June. “Advertisers and readers have been incredibly supportive of this magazine,” Meryment said. “People respond very warmly to the mix of local stories, beautiful design and high-end aesthetics.

“Our objective from the start was to approach what used to be called ‘suburban publishing’ from a totally different direction. We wanted to bring the highest production values to local media and really engage these niche audiences.”

The first edition of Local North contains quality journalism and writing from nationally recognised journalists including Manly-based Mark Brandon, the ex-editor of NW, plus former Sydney Morning Herald style writer Alexia Biggs, journalist and interior stylist Jillian Dinkel, Channel 9 journalist Neil Breen, Delicious food writer Anthony Huckstep and others. The magazine has been designed by Walkley-award winning graphic designer Trevor Timms (ex- Herald Sun, Sunday Telegraph).

The magazine will appear on the streets from June 1.
